Approximately three years ago, I met Steve Beasley, an artist with a lifelong commitment to his craft. Around that period, I began attending a social art group affiliated with my local church. Now retired, I have set myself up at home to follow my passion. I decided to paint my first portrait. I felt I would do my best to honour Steve for his lifelong dedication to art by representing him on canvass. I have learnt so much while attempting this portrait. I showed the finished work to Steve for the first time last week. The smile on his face and encouraging words has given me the motivation to enter my first competition. As a tribute, I depicted him with a happy satisfied look, immersed in his art, with paint splashes on his clothes and holding his paintbrush. At the lower section the subject is shown to be one with his environment, representing his awareness which has developed from his love of art and his surroundings.
